Rotator cuff repair in a district hospital setting: outcomes and analysis of prognostic factors.

چکیده
In a prospective study of 58 complete rotator cuff tears, 54 patients underwent surgery by a single surgeon for chronic, symptomatic, full-thickness rotator cuff defects. An independent observer performed the evaluation. Fifty-two of 58 patients reported marked relief of pain and rated themselves as having mild or no deficit in their ability to perform daily activities. The study evaluated preoperative and intraoperative factors that influenced postoperative outcome. Eighty-three percent of patients had good or excellent results according to the modified Constant scoring system and 76% with the UCLA system. There was no pain or minimal pain in 90%, and 92% reported overall improvement after the surgery. It is concluded that in a patient with a full-thickness rotator cuff tear, pain and shoulder function can be improved by acromioplasty and cuff repair, but a slight decrease in the range of motion and muscle strength will probably remain.

Characteristics of Rotator Cuff Repairs Revised to Shoulder Arthroplasty
Background: Successful repair of a torn rotator cuff may prevent progression to rotator cuff arthropathy. However, previous studies have shown a substantial rate of failure after rotator cuff repair and characteristics of surgicallyrepaired rotator cuffs that go on to shoulder arthroplasty have not been fully elucidated. The purpose of this study wasto determine the patient cha...

Background: Rotator cuff tendon tear injury is one of the most frequently seen orthopaedic conditions, and surgical repair of rotator cuff tears is a common procedure. The purpose of the present study was to determine the results of full-thickness rotator cuff repair and to look for predictors of outcomes. Methods: we studied 27 patients (17 men and 10 women with a mean age of 57.7 years) who u...
متن کاملShort term results of arthroscopic repair of subscapularis tendon tear
Abstract Background: Despite being the largest rotator cuff tendon of the shoulder, the function and clinical relevance of subscapularis pathology has been largely ignored in the literature. Although many studies have focused on subscapularis tears recently, majority of them reported techniques for open repair. The advent of arthroscopy and arthroscopic repair techniques has opened ...
متن کاملPrognostic factors for clinical outcomes after rotator cuff repair
OBJECTIVE To identify prognostic factors of postoperative functional outcomes. METHODS Retrospective case series evaluating patients undergoing rotator cuff repair, analyzed by the UCLA score (pre and 12-month postoperative) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (preoperative). Patients' intrinsic variables related to the injury and intervention were evaluated. Multivariate linear regression analysi...
متن کاملPreliminary Results of a Consecutive Series of Large & Massive Rotator Cuff Tears Treated with Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repairs Augmented with Extracellular Matrix
Background: Recurrence rate of rotator cuff tears is still high despite the improvements of surgical techniques, materials used and a better knowledge of the healing process of the rotator cuff tendons. Large to massive rotator cuff tears are particularly associated with a high failure rate, especially in elderly. Augmentation of rotator cuff repairs with extracellular matrix or synthetic patc...
